City Of Leeds Basketball launch new summer tournament for U12s from across the nation

The City Of Leeds Basketball Club are excited to announce the inaugural City Of Leeds Summer Classic in 2025 which will provide tournament-style play for U12 boys from across the UK.

The competition will afford 20 teams the chance to go head to head over a full weekend of play to see who shows out as the best U12 team in the nation. Pre-Covid, the programme had incredible success with such events, with teams travelling from across the British isles including Scotland, Ireland and Wales and it would be great to revisit such enjoyable and rewarding projects.

Teams will compete in 8 games over the weekend with pool play on day one, followed by seeding for day 2, in which teams will play-off in our Tournament of Champions, Cup, Trophy and Plate competitions, so that all teams are vying for silverware on the Sunday. The tournament will be officiated by Basketball England qualified officials with 4 courts live from 9am-6pm each day. A DJ will provide the soundtrack for the weekend and there will be food vendors available.

The Awards Ceremony will conclude the weekend with both team and individual awards to play for.

The entry fee is £600 per team of 12 players (£25 per player per day) and there are 20 places available. All players will also receive an official tournament t-shirt. Please complete the form through the link below and we will be in touch regarding your application.

COLBC Director Newby was excited to announce such an important development opportunity:

It has been important to choose the right time to reinvigorate this competition and there is some incredible work going on across the UK with many teams and programmes now delivering the game at an earlier age and stage, whether that being CVL or regional formats. Often these younger age categories, pre-National League, don’t have significant opportunities to play. We have found in the past that such events are an excellent pre-cursor to the young people stepping into National Competition. It’s an excellent opportunity for programmes to play beyond their region, for coaches and players to maintain their appetite for the game in the closed-season. We as a programme enjoy hosting such events and the festival-style atmosphere brings members of our fraternity together.”
