The City Of Leeds Basketball Club is delighted to announce that the British Championship Basketball franchise Yorkshire Dragons, will be showcasing professional basketball against rivals Derby Trailblazers as we host their final home game of the season on Saturday 7th March 2026.

The British Championship Basketball league is in its inaugural season following a move to establish the exciting second-tier of British Basketball, sitting below Super League Basketball. Yorkshire Dragons, previously Bradford Dragons, were founded in 2001 and have been ever-present in Basketball England’s senior ranks.
In an exciting collaboration between two of Yorkshire’s most longstanding programmes, Leeds Beckett University Arena will be alive once-more with high-level professional basketball. The Yorkshire basketball fraternity continues to grow and thrive with a sharp rise in youth basketball in the region. This is a unique opportunity for young people and their families to be part of a high-quality game day experience.
COLBC Director Matt Newby was looking forward to offering an opportunity for the local basketball community to see pro basketball back in Leeds:
“As interest in the game increases throughout all quarters of the region, I feel that such an event allows our basketball fraternity to witness an exciting spectacle, which we hope will inspire further interest and engagement in our sport. I hope that by collaborating in this way with the Yorkshire Dragons, we can improve the outreach of pro-basketball in the area and provide a platform for future development. LBU Arena is a great venue and the fans will be treated to a fierce matchup between two playoff contenders. With only 500 tickets available, we would encourage everyone to get their tickets early.”
Roger Murie, Chairman of Yorkshire Dragons was buoyed by the potential that this event brings to the region:
“This year has been about building something new — a refreshed identity and a commitment to expanding basketball’s reach across Yorkshire. Our partnership with the City Of Leeds has been instrumental in that mission, and hosting our final home game at Leeds Beckett Univeristy Arena is a fantastic moment for the club. We’re thrilled to help bring professional basketball back to the city and give supporters a high energy showcase. It’s a brilliant way to finish our home campaign and continue growing the sport for future generations."
We invite all those with an interest in the future of basketball in Yorkshire, along with those that want to know more about the opportunities available, to join us for a 16:00 tip-off on Saturday 7th March.
