On Saturday 3rd May 2025, The City Of Leeds Basketball in partnerships with Basketball England, hosted FIBA’s Her World Her Rules initiative aimed at engaging young women and girls in the sport, specifically using the 3x3 format as the vehicle.

With two sessions at Allerton High School, the home of the City Of Leeds Basketball Academy, almost 100 young women were part of a skills clinic and 3x3 experience driven by COLBC Women’s & Girls Development Officer Katie Lamond. Katie was supported by our girls coaches Ben Allen and former Women’s pro Greta Stout, as well as several young leaders from our Women’s U14, U16 & U18 programme.
Each young girl was provided with a free Her World Her Rules t-shirt and the opportunity to continue their development in basketball through attendance at our weekly All-Girls Basketball community sessions and our National League Summer Series. We are excited to also launch our new Owl City Loyalty programme, where young women who show commitment and loyalty to the programme will receive exclusive COLBC apparel.

Coach Katie Lamond was extremely excited by the significant response to the event:
“The potential of the young players on the floor was fantastic, while the level of enthusiasm, engagement and obvious raw talent makes the summer an exciting time for girls to start basketball. To see so many young women in one gym, let alone so many young women taking the first steps into the sport is phenomenal and I can’t wait to see the impact that this project has on our community.”

COLBC Director Matt Newby was thankful for the contribution from all quarters of our Community and National League staff:
"These projects where we engage young people are significant both in growing our community and as a platform for girls from around the city and region, to experience the high-level coaching and positive environments that we create. We have some exceptional female role-models within our administration, coaching staff and performance cohorts and it was great to see some of our U14, U16 and U18 girls giving back and inspiring a new generation of COLBC players for our thriving women’s programme. I look forward to welcoming these young ladies down to our sessions in the future."
